BECOME A MEMBER OF THE JUBILEE 500

IFSW is inviting individuals and organisations to support the IFSW 50th jubilee and to celebrate the essential contribution of social workers around the world. By becoming a member of the Jubilee 500 you will be making a distinctive and personal contribution to the jubilee activities and to global social work.

5 IS A CARDINAL NUMBER

5, 50 and 500 are significant numbers in the IFSW appeal. IFSW is 50 years old. There are almost 500,000 professional social workers in membership of the national social work organisations which make up IFSW and the Federation is divided in 5 regions (Africa, Asia & Pacific, Europe, Latin America & Caribbean and North America).

5 REVEALS A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE

Intriguingly, the number 5 has a special significance in many cultures. In East Asian tradition, there are five elements (water, fire, earth, wood and metal). The Japanese names for the days of the week Tuesday through Saturday come from these elements via the identification of the elements with the five planets visible with the naked eye. There are five basic "pillars" of Islam. According to the Maya mythology, we are now living in the Fifth World. In some cultures there are five cardinal directions, north, south, east, west and centre.

WHAT OR WHO IS THE JUBILEE 500?

  • 500 supporters of IFSW – individuals, groups or organisations - the list closes when the number is reached
  • US$500 or more donation from each individual or group for the further development of the International Federation of Social Workers
  • Donation to projects in emerging or developing regions (eg poverty alleviation) or to IFSW global development

WHAT DO YOU RECEIVE IN RETURN?

  • Donors Reception at the IFSW 2006 jubilee conference in Munich
  • Regular information about IFSW activities, campaigns and projects
  • Name and nationality published on the IFSW Website (unless you say no)
  • Listed in the IFSW Tabula Gratulatoria in Social Work Around the World IV. You will and receive a free copy if you sign up before May 2006
  • Participant in the growing development of international social work
  • Certificate of recognition
  • Special gift of appreciation

What we are asking you to do:
  • Join the IFSW Jubilee 500 Supporters now and send the attached paper to IFSW Treasurer, International Federation of Social Workers 51 Parkstone Avenue, Christchurch 8004, NEW ZEALAND. treas@ifsw.org (you will receive a confirmation and the details about payment/s);
  • Arrange payment of a contribution (at least 500 US-Dollars);
  • Encourage other Social Workers, friends of Social Work, governmental or nongovernmental Organisations which support social work to join the IFSW Jubilee 500 and send them this paper.
