Notice
IFSW General Meeting, Geneva, Switzerland, 10-12 July 2002
To IFSW Member organisations and organisations applying for membership
Cc IFSW Executive Committee and IFSW Representatives
Dear Colleagues,
You are hereby given formal notice that the General Meeting of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from July 10 – 12, 2002. The meeting is expected to start at 2:00pm (14:00) July 10 and last until the late afternoon of July 12. The exact venue will be communicated later.
As you know, IFSW is not arranging any World Conference this year after we had to cancel our planned conference in Zimbabwe due to the political development in the country. For those who would like to combine the participation at our General Meeting with a professional conference, please be aware of the World Congress of our sister organisation, the International Association of Schools of Social Work in Montpellier, France July 15 – 18 (www.aforts.com). The train will take you from Geneva to Montpellier in 4 hours.
In Geneva, hotel accommodation is available in a number of price categories. More information will be available later. If you should prefer to stay across the border to France, Ferney-Voltaire is conveniently placed. There is bus service from Ferney-Voltaire to Geneva.
As you are aware, IFSW has for some time been working on structural and operational changes. The changes will include proposed amendments to the IFSW Constitution and By-Laws. A document on the structural changes is planned for distribution not later than March 18. Member organisations wanting to propose changes in the Constitution and/or By-Laws are asked to send their proposals to the IFSW Secretariat to be received not later than April 9, by preference as an e-mail. The Secretariat will distribute proposals from member organisations April 11 (90 days ahead of the General Meeting, as regulated in the IFSW Constitution). A preliminary agenda for the General Meeting will be distributed at the same time. We will also distribute final documents for the nomination of candidates to the IFSW Executive Committee at this time. The deadline for nominations is May 11, as indicated in our communication of January 10.
Other documents for the General Meeting, including the draft agenda, will be distributed not later than May 29.
At the General Meeting, each member organisation is entitled to three delegates. Observers may be admitted with the permission of the President. If your organisation should be unable to attend the General Meeting, you can give your proxy to another member organisation More specific information about this will be sent later.
Please observe that in General Meeting years, member organisations must have all previous years' membership fees and their membership fee for that year paid at the time of the opening of the General Meeting to ensure their representatives the right to vote at the meeting. We have distributed questionnaires to all member organisations requesting updated information. This questionnaire will form the basis for our membership fee invoice to your organisation, and we therefore ask you to return it to us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so.
Looking forward to see as many as possible of you in Geneva in July.
Sydney/Berne, February 27, 2002
Yours sincerely,
Imelda Dodds, President
Tom Johannesen, Secretary General
