Resolution Regarding HIV/AIDS

Proposed by the Canadian Association of Social Workers

IFSW General Meeting, 25-27 July 2000 Montréal, Québec, Canada

Whereas the HIV/AIDS epidemic is entering its third decade throughout the world, and there is no end to the epidemic in sight; and

Whereas the HIV/AIDS infects people regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation or financial status, and affects all populations to whom social workers provide services; and

Whereas social workers have a professional responsibility to have the knowledge and skills to address HIV/AIDS issues in their practice;

Be it Resolved that the International Federation of Social Workers

  • Encourage the organizing committees of biennial conferences to include HIV/AIDS content in their conferences;

  • Identifies, together with tits member organizations, means of sharing information about best practice in HIV/AIDS work, and encourages collaboration among IFSW member organizations regarding their responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
