World Debt

IFSW General Meeting, 25-27 July 2000 Montréal, Québec, Canada

The IFSW General Meeting notes the failure of the Heads of Government of the G8 nations to agree on a realistic solution to the world debt crisis. As social workers we know this failure will result in pain, distress and lack of opportunities through no fault of their own. This means that every child in poorer countries is born heavily in debt to the richer nations.

The IFSW General Meeting supports the Jubilee 2000 campaign for the relief of debt and calls on the richer nations to accept their global obligations to humanity and to peaceful co-existence and to end the debts of the poorest countries.
