Nomination of Candidates for the IFSW Executive Committee

The International Federation of Social Workers will hold its next General Meeting in Adelaide, Australia, 29 September - 1 October 2004, at which some Officers and Members-at-large of the Executive Committee for the period 2004-2008 will be elected.

Your organisation is hereby invited to prepare for nomination of candidates, in accordance with By-Law 11 of the new IFSW Constitution adopted at the General Meeting in Geneva 2002. Please note that you can only nominate candidates from your own organisation. The nominations shall be accompanied by a short curricula vitae for your nominee (maximum two pages) if the person is nominated for the first time, and an equally short up-dated C.V. for candidates for re-election. In addition we need a written consent from the nominee.

Criteria for the Election of the Officers and Members-at-Large of the IFSW Executive Committee as suggested by the 1978 IFSW Nominating Committee.

1. Commitment to the goals of IFSW as laid down in the Constitution
2. Demonstration of leadership in the candidates own professional organisation
3. Demonstration of leadership in their country or internationally in promoting social welfare
4. Possession of professional qualifications
5. Possession of language(s) facilities (preferably bilingual)
6. Identification with the region he or she represents, mainly by residence, work experiences, and knowledge of the main language(s) spoken in the region
7. Longer practical wisdom and objective interest in international affairs
8. Willingness to devote time to assume work responsibilities in the Executive Committee
9. Ableness, in so far as possible, to attend Executive Committee meetings
10. Participation, so far as possible, as delegate of the General Meeting or attendance at IFSW Conferences

The following offices shall be elected in Adelaide for the period 2004-2008:

Treasurer - Present office bearer: Fiona Robertson, New Zealand (can be re-nominated) Vice President for Africa - Present office bearer: Kishore C. Ramgoolam, Mauritius (can be re-nominated) Vice President for Asia & Pacific - Present office bearer: Justina Leung, Hong Kong (can be renominated) Vice President for Europe - Present officer bearer: David N. Jones, United Kingdom (can be re-nominated) Member-at-large for Latin-America and the Caribbean: Present office bearer: Joaquina Barata Teixeira, Brazil (can be re-nominated)

All other members of the Executive Committee were elected until 2006 at the General Meeting in Geneva 2002:

President Imelda Dodds, Australia; Vice President for Latin-America & the Caribbean Juan Manuel Latorre Carvajal, Colombia; Vice-President for North-America Gary Bailey, USA;

Members at large for

Africa: Charles N. Mbugua, Kenya; Asia & Pacific: John Ang, Singapore; Europe: Monica Egan, Ireland; and North America: John Mould, Canada (later exchanged by Ellen Oliver, Canada).

Please send the nominations at your earliest convenience to my address indicated below, but, in any case, not later than Thursday 12 August 2004 (in conformity with the IFSW Constitution 50 days before the date set for counting the ballots at the General Meeting).
