EU adopts child poverty and well-being report |

The European Union's Social Protection Committee has endorsed a new report drawn up by the EU Taskforce on Child Poverty and Well-being.
The report uses commonly agreed indicators to identify factors that affect child poverty in the EU, where, it says, more than one child in four lives in poverty or deprivation.
Chair of the Social Protection Committee Elise Willame and Nikolaus G Va der Pas, Director for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, said that fighting child poverty was the most effective way of improving the future for Europe.
"Poverty always means fewer opportunities, curtailed dreams and wasted potential," they said. "But in the case of children it is our future that is at stake…Swift action will instead pay off now as well as bear fruit in the years to come."
The EU hope the report will be used to devise more effective national strategies for improving the lives of children.
