IFSW active on Women's issues at the UN

The UN Commission on the Status of Women recently concluded its 52nd Session in New York as a follow-up to the Fourth World Conference on Women and to the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly, entitled “Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first century”: Implementation of strategic objectives and action in critical areas of concern and further actions and initiatives: financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women. In a special statement on the situation of women in the world, the IFSW Team to the UN in New York focused on questions related to poverty, the economy, education and training, health, violence and girls. In another statement in cooperation with a number of other non-governmental organizations it was underlined that we are committed to the promotion of mental health, psychological and societal well-being, the prevention and treatment of mental illness and emotional distress, and the improvement in the delivery and quality of mental health services through advocacy and education at the United Nations. It was also pointed out that historically mental health has been overlooked or minimized in discussions at the UN.
