Public Services Day: Joint Call for Action

Education International (EI), Oxfam and Public Services International (PSI) has made a call to world leaders on Public Services Day (June 23) to increase funds for health workers and teachers. The current gap between what is provided and what is needed means that governments do not do enough to realise the fundamental human right to universal access to health services and education.

Ylva Thörn, the President of PSI, says that in some countries there are only enough health workers to cover 10 % of the population and Thulas Nxesi, President of EI, says that millions of teachers are missing due to lack of funding.

The UN Milennium Development Goals are off-track when it comes to health and education and will not be achieved unless more funding is provided.
