Recent research suggests, that the problem of sex trafficking of children and young people is getting worse rather than better, and that governments simply are not doing enough to tackle the problems and protect children. The NGO ECPAT International (End Child Pornography And Trafficking of children for sexual purposes) and the Body Shop have been started a campaign to stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People. ECPAT International and the Body Shop are calling on governments to act now to honour their commitments outlined in the Rio Declaration and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Over the next three years the campaigns' aim is to help to achieve change by measuring and publicising countries’ progress towards three strategic goals and performance indicators.
The first step has been done by publishing a report helping to increase understanding of key trends and challenges. It is planned by the campaign to publicise appropriate information to keep this issue on the global agenda. In the meantime, the organisators will continue to work together to raise money to provide care and support for child victims of sex trafficking using ECPAT International’s global expertise and the Body Shop’s worldwide presence.
