2nd Civil Society Forum on the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

After a 1st Child focused Civil Society Forum which took place in April this year, the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) will meet again in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.

Throughout this first NGO Forum there was a clear sense of unified optimism towards a shared goal to have a united voice on behalf of Africa’s children.

The 1st Forum covered a vast array of areas including how the African Union (AU) developed, the scope and focus of the AU department that is responsible for child rights issues and how Civil Society can engage with the ACERWC. Furthermore the issues of learning from experiences of the NGO Forum around the ACHPR, updating on research and events and issues that affect children in Africa have been discussed.

The 2nd forum will tie in the action plan of the first meeting and especially aims to contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the ACRWC and to foster closer collaboration among civil society organisations (CSO), the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) and other stakeholders in the promotion and protection of children’s rights in Africa. During the three days of the 2nd forum, a number of eminent and distinguished personalities and speakers in the child rights field will enlighten participants on the status of children’s rights in Africa.
