The annual Social Service Workforce Week, spearheaded by our esteemed partner, the Global Social Service Workforce Alliance, carries profound importance for social workers across the globe. This week-long event, spanning from October 23-27 this year, serves as a vital platform to champion the rights and roles of social service workers, while also spotlighting the ongoing global endeavors to fortify this crucial workforce.
With the theme A Decade of Progress, A Future of Promise, this year is particularly noteworthy as it marks the Alliance’s 10th anniversary, offering an opportunity to reflect upon the substantial advancements made at global, regional, and national scales over the past ten years. More than just a celebration, the week is a call to action for the forthcoming decade, emphasizing the need for continued reinforcement and development of the social service sector.
The pinnacle of this week is the Annual Symposium, which will be conducted virtually. This symposium is set to provide a comprehensive overview of the landmark Cape Town conference and its global ramifications. Furthermore, by delving into the unique journeys of Romania, Rwanda, and Viet Nam, the symposium aims to shed light on the diverse strategies employed by different nations in bolstering their social service workforces. Among the distinguished speakers at the symposium is the former IFSW North America President, Cathy Wehrman, bringing her wealth of experience and insights to the discussions.
Joachim Mumba, IFSW President, noted: “For every social worker, this week and symposium are not just events but essential touchpoints for learning, networking, and advocating for a stronger future“.
