Terry Bamford presents The Agenda Commitments to Vijay Krishnarayan
The Commonwealth Organisation for Social Work (COSW), which has close ties with IFSW, has formally endorsed The Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development. COSW arranged for Board member Terry Bamford to present The Agenda Commitments to Vijay Krishnarayan, the new Director of the Commonwealth Foundation, in London, UK on Monday 26 March, on the same day as presentations to the United Nations in Geneva and New York.
COSW is an organisation for citizens of the Commonwealth (organisations and individuals) who are interested in supporting social work and social development. The objectives of COSW are:
- To promote and support communication and collaboration between social workers and social work associations of Commonwealth countries
- To uphold and promote the ethical principles of the International Federation of Social Workers
The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 54 countries that support each other and work together towards shared goals in democracy and development.
The world’s largest and smallest, richest and poorest countries make up the Commonwealth and are home to two billion citizens of all faiths and ethnicities – over half of whom are 25 or under. Member countries span six continents and oceans from Africa (19) to Asia (8), the Americas (3), the Caribbean (10), Europe (3) and the South Pacific (11). Today there are nearly 90 professional and advocacy organisations which bear the Commonwealth’s name. These organisations, like COSW, work in the 54 member countries, across five continents and three oceans, in order to promote the shared goals and values of the Commonwealth.
