We are glad to be part of this great initiative represented by our Secretary-General.
The EAP/Occupational Group is pleased to announce a successful first Zoom Meeting of the newly formed Occupational/ Employee Assistance Program (EAP) interest group. The meeting was held virtually on May 18, 2021 featuring International Federation of Social Workers General Secretary (IFSW), Rory Truell, as a guest speaker, giving his thoughts on Social Justice in the workplace. Dr. Truell pointed out that the IFSW, which includes both social workers and other Friends, is purposed with challenging injustices and assists in developing a socially just world in its global capacity. It was formed in 1928 and as an affiliate of the United Nations one of its present goals is how to emerge out of this pandemic with a new set of values with eco sustainability, for people to unlock their potential in life. He also described the role of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the United Nations Research Institute for Human Development (UNRI). He pointed out that the United Nations is moving away from aid to a developmental model for empowerment. For an effective EAP system, he stated, research is badly needed.
The interest group is led by Dr. Dale A. Masi (Masi Research Consultants, Boston). Some of the participants on the first call were from a wide geographical area (Azerbaijan, Burundi, France, Guinea, Ireland, Nigeria, Mongolia, Palestine, Taiwan, Uganda).
