HAN University hosted International Social Work Week 2024, providing an enriching platform for students to collaborate, learn and develop with colleagues from different countries.
The overarching objective was to cultivate an inclusive environment where students could learn and collaborate, acquiring experiences that transcend traditional classroom boundaries. The week underscored the critical role of preparing future social workers with the skills, knowledge, and cross-cultural sensitivity needed to navigate diverse contexts and be the catalyst for positive change.
In my role as President of IFSW Europe, I was privileged to contribute six workshops focusing on social workers’ interventions in disasters, support strategies for individuals affected by wars, and the resilience of children facing losses in challenging environments. These workshops aimed to empower students with practical skills and knowledge, equipping them to make a positive impact in demanding situations.
The theme “Growing Together” came to life as students engaged in the exchange of ideas and perspectives. HAN University’s International Social Work Week emphasized the significance of nurturing a strong identity, helping students to find their voice in advocating for social issues. The event concentrated on nurture professional responsibility, providing students with the tools to navigate the world’s complexities with respect and compassion.
As the week concluded, participants departed not only with newfound knowledge and skills but also with a sense of empowerment to effect positive change in their communities and the wider world. The success of the event reaffirms HAN University and IFSW Europe’s commitment to training socially conscious and globally engaged social work professionals.
