IFSW Longstanding Leader Honoured with a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award for Services to Social Care’

Information Type: NewsTopic: IFSW

May 16, 2024

IFSW long-term volunteer and leader Nigel Hall has just been awarded the ‘Chairman’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Services to Social Care’ by the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards on 11 May 2024 in Birmingham UK.

As Past President of IFSW Africa and Global Human Rights Commissioner Nigel has been a key player in the development of the IFSW African Region, the training and development of many social workers in different parts of the world, from teaching positions in Zimbabwe and the UK. Over the years, Nigel has contributed to the development of social work writing and research and written extensively for IFSW. He also represented IFSW on the Borad of the International Journal of Social Work published by Sage.

IFSW President Joachim Mumba in congratulating Nigel on his award said “Nigel has been a key person in the development of social work in Africa. There are many social workers who as students were mentored by Nigel, who are now in leading positions in their countries and in IFSW. He is a social work elder in this region and globally. We deeply appreciate him”.

IFSW Secretary General, Rory Truell said, “When you have to leave your own country and live for years somewhere else it is wonderful to be recognised where the roots of your life’s path were established. Nigel has always fully embodied social work values. Through all the political challenges encountered in Zimbabwe he remained, as a social worker, committed to social justice, recognising human dignity and self-determination. Nigel has worked as a senior volunteer for IFSW for decades and to this day he continues to support the archival project. He is someone who keeps on giving to others and enjoys celebrating their success. This award is fully justified”.

NOTE:

It has expanded to several countries including the UK, South Africa, USA, and Australia. Apart from hosting awards ceremonies, ZAA operates a sister publication named Zim Abroad, which showcases inspiring entrepreneurs, actors, musicians, and community leaders who represent Zimbabwe on the international stage, often overcoming significant challenges. Their mission is to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate businesses, organisations, and individuals of Zimbabwean heritage excelling in their respective countries.
