IFSW Message on the earthquake in Chile – Mensaje de la FITS sobre el terremoto en Chile

Information Type: NewsTopic: Disaster

March 3, 2010

Laura Acotto, IFSW President for Latin America and the Caribbean, and David N Jones, IFSW President have sent messages of condolences and support to social workers in Chile and to the Chilean association. IFSW and IASSW are working together to develop a more effective response to disasters from the global social work organisations.

David Jones said ‘My first thoughts are to send commiserations from the IFSW family, including Laura Acotto, and to express the hope that no members of the association have been injured in the quake.

‘It is too soon to look at what we can do to help, if anything. We are here to provide support if we can.

‘Please pass our greetings and concerns to professional colleagues in Chile. I know many of them will be working even now to assist the survivors.

‘With our thoughts and prayers and best wishes in these difficult times.’
