On the 9th July the IFSW UN Commission team in North America hosted a side event at the United Nations High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. The event titled ‘Social Workers as Partners in Advancing Sustainable, Innovative, and Community Engaged Solutions through Co-Building an Eco-Social World’ drew an online audience from around the world and featured speakers from the IFSW UN Commission, the IFSW Indigenous Commission and the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development.
The discussion drew together the People’s Charter for an Eco-social World, and how this living document is being used to guide social work practice. Ubuntu & Buen Vivir, as global social work and Charter themes, were also highlighted with reflections on how they are impacting on the social work profession. The invited speakers included Evelyn Tomaszewski, Rory Truell, Sebastian Cordoba, Katja Hujo and Hilary Weaver.
Priska Fleischlin, Global Commissioner of the IFSW UN Commission commented, “This event presented inspiring and practical examples of the significant developments of the social work profession in co-leading and co-nurturing eco-social outcomes. I am sure that the open access recording will provide social workers, who could not participate, with ideas and concepts that will enrich their practice”.
