The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) Africa Region has announced Malawi as the host country for the 2027 IFSW Africa Regional Conference. The announcement was formally made by the IFSW Africa President, Oluwatoni Adeleke, during the IFSW Africa Regional Conference held between in Dakar, Senegal.
Malawi was selected following a formal expression of interest to host the conference, demonstrating strong commitment and readiness to convene social workers from across the African continent. The selection reflects IFSW Africa Region’s inclusive and transparent process, as well as its commitment to rotating conference hosting opportunities among member countries.
The 2027 Africa Regional Conference will bring together social workers, policymakers, academics, practitioners, civil society organisations, and development partners to engage in dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collective action on key social development, social justice, and human rights issues affecting Africa.
The Malawi Association of Social Workers, working in collaboration with the IFSW Africa Region, will lead local hosting arrangements and coordinate with regional and international partners to ensure a successful and impactful conference.
Speaking on the announcement, IFSW Africa Vice President, Abib Ndiaye, who hosted the 2025 Africa Regional Conference in Senegal, stated:
“The Dakar Conference demonstrated the strength of collaboration and solidarity among African social workers. We are confident that Malawi will build on this momentum and provide a powerful platform for advancing social work practice, knowledge exchange, and regional unity across Africa.”
