IFSW’s former Regional President for Asia and Pacific, Justina Leung, has sent a message on behalf of the Federation to social work colleagues in Vietnam following the flooding and landslides in Hanoi and Northern Vietnam after the worst rain for 35 years. More than 90 people died as residents found more than 30cm (1ft) of mud in their homes at the height of the flooding. Millions of cubic metres of water had to be pumped from the neighbourhoods in the capital, and it will take time to restore homes and livelihoods.
In the message Justina Leung conveys the deep concern of IFSW for the many lives lost and express support on behalf of the international social work community and IFSW President David N Jones both to the huge number of people and families seriously affected and to the social workers involved in the reconcilation and restoration process.
