The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) is delighted to welcome Mozambique as its newest member, represented by the African Association of Social Workers Mozambique (AASMO). This milestone marks the country’s integration into a worldwide network committed to advancing social justice, human rights, and professional social work practice.
Mozambique’s membership reflects years of growing collaboration between AASMO, government bodies, and international partners to strengthen and professionalise the social work sector. The commitment to ethical standards, effective regulation, and investment in workforce development positions the country to make a significant contribution to both regional and global social work dialogue.
Welcoming Mozambique, Oluwatoni Adeleke, IFSW Africa President, said: We warmly welcome Mozambique into the IFSW family. Investing in the next generation of social workers is critical to sustaining and professionalising the field. We must create opportunities for leadership development, mentorship, and active participation in both regional and international structures. By equipping young professionals early in their careers, we ensure the continuity, relevance, and resilience of social work in addressing the complex social challenges our communities face today and in the future.
Pascal Rudin, IFSW Interim Secretary-General, added: Mozambique’s inclusion in the IFSW community is a milestone for the country’s social work profession and for our Federation. The engagement of AASMO, the government, and partners demonstrates a deep commitment to building ethical, well-supported services that respond to the needs of communities. We thank our members for their support, trust, and for warmly welcoming Mozambique into the Federation. We look forward to the perspectives and energy Mozambique will bring to our shared mission.
AASMO’s recent national conference in Maputo provided an important platform to discuss workforce needs, policy reform, and international collaboration. This momentum now continues as Mozambique joins the global federation, ready to contribute its own experiences while engaging in mutual learning with peers across the world.
