The newly convened Council of the Commonwealth Organisation for Social Work (COSW) held its first formal meeting on 24 May 2025, bringing together representatives from 16 Commonwealth countries. This marks a significant step in strengthening regional collaboration and promoting the values of social work across the Commonwealth.
During the meeting, the Council celebrated COSW’s re-accreditation as an Accredited Commonwealth Organisation, enabling it to continue playing an active role within the Independent Forum of Commonwealth Organisations and in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat.
The Council also reaffirmed its partnership with IFSW and IASSW in advancing social development and justice, and laid the groundwork for a revised strategic plan to be adopted in September 2025. COSW President Sylvia Daisy Romanus described the event as “historic”, expressing confidence in the Council’s ability to make a meaningful impact in line with social work and Commonwealth values.
