Christopher Chitereka sadly died of a stroke on the morning of Saturday August 20th 2011. On Monday 22nd he was due to attend a meeting at the University of Lesotho where he held the post of Senior Lecturer in Social Work and at which he was expected to be promoted to Assistant Professor. Prior to moving to Lesotho Chris was a Lecturer at the School of Social Work in Zimbabwe. He enjoyed teaching at the School and was a very positive person who made the most of life.
Chris always gave so much to social work and in addition to his teaching at the School was a leading light in the National Association of Social Workers (Zimbabwe) which he gave a lot of his time to, contributing to the work of the Task Force and in various executive roles helping to rebuild and revitalise the Association.
He was a pillar of social work education in Lesotho and contributed immensely to the growth of the Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa (ASSWA), being one of the executive members elected in Nairobi when the office was launched a couple of years ago. This contribution to the development of ASSWA and consequently to social work in Africa was much valued. He will be very much missed and we have lost an outstanding person who was devoted to the promotion of social work in Africa.
