Popular Scottish rock band surprises social workers at World Social Work Day celebration in Edinburgh

Information Type: NewsTopic: World Social Work Day

March 29, 2015

Platinum, indie rock band cousins, James and Rab Allan from the Glaswegian act Glasvegas put in a surprise performance at the Scottish Association of Social Worker’s (SASW) annual awards ceremony in Edinburgh on World Social Work Day 2015.

Cousins James and Rab Allan performed an acoustic set of four songs before posing for photographs and mingling with guests. They played during the awards ceremony at short notice after the original musicians pulled out.
The band has been popular with social workers ever since recording ‘Geraldine’ in 2008, singing the praises of a social worker.

The band members, a sound engineer and the band’s manager all came along to the awards after SASW manager Trisha Hall sent a desperate email via the ‘contact us’ button on the Glasvegas Website.

Ms Hall said: “When the response came and suggested James, the singer and Rab, lead guitarist would consider coming along I couldn’t believe it.

“I was blown away by their willingness to come and play for us, and give social work in Scotland, and the people nominated for the awards this kind of fantastic support and exposure.

“I speak on behalf of SASW and Scottish social workers when I say how absolutely delighted and touched we are that these artists, their manager and sound professional would give their time and energy to support our profession in this way.”

The song ends: ‘I will be the angel on your shoulder, My name is Geraldine, I’m your social worker’.  Glasvegas were the angels for Scottish social workers on World Social Work Day 2015!
