Reminder: Your chance to take part in the biggest global study of challenging working conditions of social workers

Information Type: NewsTopic: IFSW, Social Work

March 25, 2024

All social workers are invited to help create the biggest overview of often-challenging working conditions of social workers around the globe.  The survey is open until 31 May 2024.

Participate

Since 2018, IFSW, together with partners, has been highlighting the working conditions of social workers worldwide. This initiative involved conducting a global survey to collect factual data on the work environments of social workers. The findings reveal that they often face more challenging conditions than those in similar professions.

David N Jones, the Chair of the Steering Group for this research, underscored the critical nature of these findings. He noted, “Our research highlights the ongoing challenges within the profession, negatively impacting not only social workers but the communities they serve. The adverse working conditions lead to heightened stress, burnout, and issues with staff retention, which in turn hinders the provision of crucial services to those in need.”

To further understand these issues, we are extending an invitation to social workers worldwide to engage in the next stage of our survey. We are particularly keen on increasing participation from Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Latin America and Caribbean regions to gain a broader and more inclusive perspective. Your input will be instrumental in influencing policy and advocating for improved conditions in social work across the globe.

David Jones added, “We are making a heartfelt plea for involvement from every part of the globe, especially from areas that have not been well represented. Your unique experiences and perspectives are invaluable. This is an essential time for social workers to come together as agents of change, aiming to reduce the significant disparities in working conditions.”

How to Participate

To contribute your experiences, insights, and to be a part of this global endeavor to better the working conditions for social workers, please visit the survey website. Your voice matters, and together we can make a significant impact.
