African Social Work leaders gathering together in South Africa to to ensure that the voices of people in poverty are heard by policy makers
Each year on the 17th of October the global community rallies together to bring awareness and to advocate for the eradication of poverty. Extreme poverty kills more children, young persons, and adults than any war. Therefore this UN lead international theme is: “Ending the Violence of Extreme Poverty – Promoting empowerment and building peace.”
As Social Workers we witness the daily realities of people living in poverty and the multiple systems that perpetuate hunger, ill health and exploitation. Therefore, with our partner organizations, we have developed the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development to eradicate poverty through promoting social and economic equality and the regulation of international systems to support the capacity development for those living in poverty.
We therefore call on our members and all social workers to show solidarity on 17th October by endorsing the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development at www.ifsw.org/get-involved/agenda-for-social-work/endorse.
If you have taken any further action please let us know and we will post your initiative on our website.
