In August, a groundbreaking collaboration brought together social workers from Greece, Turkey, and the UK championed by the Turkish Association of Social Workers, the Hellenic Association of Social Workers, Liverpool Hope University, and the University of West Attica.
This monumental initiative, known as the ‘Social Work Summer Camp’, was spearheaded by the Muğla Branch of the Turkish Association of Social Workers in conjunction with the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality. Over five transformative days, participants immersed themselves in comprehensive discussions addressing social work’s role in the escalating climate crisis. This dynamic event blended workshops, insightful lectures, hands-on field trips, and community-building activities.
Emerging from this initiative was a joint declaration, a united voice from all participating organisations and individuals.
The document serves as a global rallying cry, urging support for both social workers and wider movements passionately advocating for climate justice. We encourage its widespread dissemination within the global social work community.
