UPDATED INFORMATION ON IFSW & COVID-19

World Day to Overcome Extreme Poverty (October 17)

Information Type: NewsTopic: Social Protection

October 19, 2010

“Poverty is the worst form of violence” Mahatma Ghandi

In recognition of World Day to Overcome Extreme Poverty (October 17) IFSW is challenging social workers and all people concerned with the eradication of poverty to sign-up on line to the Striving Together to End Poverty movement being advanced by the international partners behind the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

“The symbolic gesture of signing your name onto petition demanding action to eradicate poverty may seem simple” stated IFSW President Gary Bailey “However its’ importance is self evident when compounded with the international movements driving change.”

Along with encouraging individual efforts towards ending poverty both inside and outside their borders, IFSW continues to demand that the Governments honor their commitments to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

“Our Individual and organizational commitments to end poverty also mean that we have a duty to make certain that our governments are meeting the commitments to the world made on our behalf” stated Charles Mbugua Vice President for Africa of IFSW “Social workers have taken notice that the decision of governments directly impacts the lives of so many who are at r the greatest risk”
