On 18 March 2026, World Social Work Day will be celebrated online at the United Nations Office in Geneva under the theme “Co Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society”.
Inspired by the African philosophy of harambee, meaning pulling together, the event highlights the role of social work in rebuilding trust, strengthening social cohesion and contributing to inclusive and resilient communities.
The theme aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Doha Political Declaration adopted at the second World Summit for Social Development.
The programme includes opening remarks from UN and social work leaders, including from IFSW President Joachim Mumba, keynote presentations by Prof. Heather Boetto and Prof. Janestic M. Twikirize, and an international roundtable on overcoming divisions and strengthening resilience.
Celebrated at the United Nations in Geneva since 2012, World Social Work Day affirms the profession’s commitment to human dignity, social justice and sustainable development.
