WSWD 2020 in Portugal – Social Work, Human Rights and Intercultural Relations.

Information Type: NewsTopic: World Social Work Day, Membership, IFSW

April 8, 2020

Social workers in Portugal celebrate World Social Work Day 2020 with the presentation of the book Social Work, Human Rights  and Intercultural Relations last day published by Catholic University of Portugal  (Download here the book)

Graca André, member of the Portuguese Association of Social workeres has said :”we ended the month of March with the release of the e-book Social Work, Human Right and Intercultural Relations,  which emerges within the scope of International Social Work Days 2019, an event organized by the Social Work team of the Faculty of Human Sciences of Catholic University of Portugal  ( Lisboa) to mark the International Day of Social Work of the same year.

Based on the contributions of 6 international authors, teachers and researchers, several relationships between these three central themes are explored.

António Guterres, UN Secretary General, told us in 2011 that we should consider the 21st century, the century of people on the move, where not only geopolitical challenges, but also demographic and environmental ones are presented. The preparation of these works did not, of course, anticipate the situation we face today, of uncertainty, instability and fear. However, we cannot fail to reflect on the different relations that are established between the Member States of the European Union, in Europe and in the World, since they show us the need to develop a global response to this complex challenge.
Solidarity, equity, social justice, respect for the fulfillment of basic needs and human rights, call us – all –  to value the differences, the weaknesses and potential of the friend, the neighbor, the community, the country,  if we want to survive the present and other adversities to come. In short, to practice living and being together, with concerted actions and responses, swift and fair.  It means TO BE TOGETHER! “
