The IFSW country-level member in Argentina, Colegio de Profesionales de Servicio Social de Misiones’ (the Social Work Association of Argentina) has successfully worked with their government to introduce new legislation that improves the working conditions of social workers and recognises the specific role of the profession in community building, supporting active citizenship and defending human rights.
‘The legislation developed in Argentina is a major development’, said IFSW Secretary-General Dr Rory Truell. ‘The law not only sets the policy framework for ensuring high level of standards for social work, it also identifies the critical importance of the profession and its unique contribution to wider society’.
On behalf of the international community IFSW Global President Ruth Stark congratulated Silvana Martinez the President of the Social Work Association of Argentina her colleagues for their years of dedication to turning this idea into a reality. “It is not only important for Argentina”, she said, “it will act as an inspiration for other governments to follow”.
