IFSW Indigenous Commissioner to Speak at International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples Event

Information Type: NewsTopic: IFSW, Indigenous

July 28, 2026

The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) is pleased to invite members and partners to participate in a special online event marking the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on 5 August 2026.

The event will feature a screening of the acclaimed documentary Pig Feast: Colonialism in Our Time, which examines the ongoing impacts of colonialism, militarisation, and large-scale development projects on Indigenous communities in West Papua. Following the screening, participants will join an interactive panel discussion exploring alternative approaches to development that protect life and the environment, uphold human dignity, and respect human rights.

IFSW Indigenous Commissioner Hilary Weaver will be among the distinguished panel speakers, joining Indigenous activists, religious leaders and scholars from around the world to discuss the rights of Indigenous Peoples and pathways towards more just and sustainable futures.

The event will conclude with an open question-and-answer session and a participatory discussion, providing attendees with an opportunity to engage directly with the panellists.
