IFSW is pleased to announce that the University of Connecticut will honor President Gary Bailey for his tireless commitment to social work with the award of the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. The award will be issued for his contributions as “an internationally recognized leader, scholar and educator in social work, social development, diversity, social justice, and human rights”. IFSW Secretary-General Dr Rory Truell congratulates Gary Bailey on behalf of the Federation. “This is well-deserved award for an outstanding and humanitarian leader. Under Mr Bailey’s presidency IFSW membership has grown considerably and our contributions to the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development have surged forward. He has shaped IFSW to effectively respond to today’s global challenges through his relentless passion for human rights and social justice. The University of Connecticut have made an excellent decision. ” he says. The honorary degree will be presented on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the University of Connecticut.
