Indonesia: Over 125 Social Workers Take Professional Oath – Commitment to Quality Service

Information Type: NewsTopic: Social Work, Ethics

September 16, 2024

On September 7, 2024, a historic moment unfolded for social workers in Indonesia. Held at the Cimahi City Hall Auditorium, more than 100 social workers gathered to take their professional oath. This event not only witnessed the commitment of these individuals but also reflected a collective spirit to provide quality social services and adhere to established professional ethical standards. The event was attended by 127 participants both in-person and online, demonstrating that the spirit of service to the community knows no bounds.

The significance of this event was further emphasized by the Acting Chairman of the Independent Professional Social Workers Indonesia (IPSPI), Bayu Risdiyanto, who asserted that the professional oath symbolizes commitment and integrity in performing the duties of a social worker. In his speech, he expressed hope that each participant would carry out their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism. This oath is not merely a formality but a noble call to serve those in need.

The professional oath taken by social workers is a manifestation of the implementation of Law Number 14 of 2019 concerning Social Workers, which sets various standards and responsibilities for this profession. With this law in place, social workers are expected to perform their duties with integrity, adhere to legal norms, and always comply with professional ethics. This forms an essential foundation for improving the quality of social services provided to the community.

The oath-taking ceremony was also marked by inspirational messages from the attending religious leaders. Drs. KH. Tubagus Hadi Sutiksna from Islam, Reverend Sutanto Teddhy from Christianity, and Fr. Novilus Uropmabin from Catholicism imparted profound meanings about the essence of service. Their messages touched the hearts of every social worker, reminding them that this duty is a service that must be carried out wholeheartedly.

This event was not only for first-time oath-takers but also involved experienced social workers, aiming to renew and strengthen their professional commitment. In this hopeful atmosphere, participants were reminded of the importance of collaboration between the government, related institutions, and the community in supporting the development of the social work profession. With strong support, it is hoped that the social services provided will continue to improve and gain the trust of the community.

The Independent Professional Social Workers Indonesia (IPSPI) played a crucial role in organizing and overseeing this event. As a platform for professional social workers, IPSPI ensures that ethical and professional standards are upheld by all its members. The professional oath-taking is not just a ceremonial act but also a strategic step in strengthening the capacity of social workers in Indonesia.

With all the emotions and enthusiasm, this professional oath-taking is expected to be not only a starting point for new social workers but also to reinforce the dedication of all social workers to continue contributing to society. Let us support every step and effort they make in serving, as this is where the meaning of creating significant change in the lives of many lies.
