The Indonesian Independent Association of Professional Social Workers (IPSPI) has officially released its much-anticipated report for World Social Work Day (WSWD) 2024. This year’s theme, “Buen Vivir: A Shared Future for Transformative Change,” highlights the importance of incorporating indigenous wisdom and community-based approaches in social work, with the aim of fostering sustainable and harmonious development.
Although the report took some time to be finalised, its value to the social work community is undeniable. “This report is not just a document; it is a reflection of our collective journey towards achieving comprehensive well-being, both for social workers and the communities they work with,” said Puji Pujiono, President of IPSPI. He emphasised that the report serves as a crucial tool for social workers in Indonesia and globally to advocate for social transformation.
Machiko Ohara, the IFSW Asia-Pacific Regional President, also underscored the significance of the report. “Congratulations to our colleagues in Indonesia. This report arrives at a pivotal time and is an important tool to foster and promote shared learning. It encapsulates the essence of our profession and offers a roadmap for future actions,” Ohara commented.
In its report, IPSPI has highlighted the agendas pushed during WSWD 2024 and the difficult issues confronted. “While not all of these efforts yielded immediate results, we believe there is significant value in the lessons learnt,” said Pujiono. “These insights are invaluable for our colleagues in social work, offering opportunities to learn from our experiences and possibly applying these lessons in their own contexts.”
The release of this report, along with the insights gained, is expected to ignite meaningful discussions and actions among social workers, policymakers, and communities as they work together towards a more just and sustainable future. Read the full report here.
