North America celebrates Social Work Month in March every year. World Social Work Day takes place during this period.
The National Association of Social Workers (USA) theme for Social Work Month 2013 is “Weaving Threads of Resilience and Advocacy: The Power of Social Work”.
The theme emphasizes the value of using personal strengths and self-advocacy to manage serious life challenges. “Social workers strive every day to help millions of people function better in their environments,” says NASW CEO Elizabeth J. Clark. “They also work to change environments that may limit individuals, families and communities.”
There are a large number of events across North America during this period, including many where there are celebrations involving public bodies and other organisations giving their support to social workers. Local newspapers frequently carry positive stories about social work.
We present a collection of links to news stories on this page. This list will be updated through the month, so please come back to visit new entries.
