The commitment of our volunteers to creating positive change is a testament to the power of collective action

December 5, 2023

As we celebrate International Volunteer Day on December 5, 2023, IFSW underscores the transformative role of volunteers in driving positive change and advancing social justice. This year’s theme, “The Power of Collective Action,” resonates deeply with the principles and practices of social work as we recognise the incredible impact volunteers have when they come together to address the most pressing challenges facing our global community.

Volunteers are at the heart of our federation, embodying the spirit of service and compassion. They play a pivotal role in promoting social development, empowering vulnerable populations, and advocating for human rights. It is their collective action that enables us to build more inclusive, equitable, and resilient societies.

IFSW President, Joachim Mumba, emphasizes, “International Volunteer Day is an occasion to recognise the dedication and selflessness of our volunteers around the world. Their commitment to creating positive change is a testament to the power of collective action. We are proud to stand alongside our volunteers as we work together to build a better future for all. Together we can achieve transformative change and create a world where no one is left behind. Community volunteers are part of the frontline workforce and found where the rubber meets the road“

IFSW Acting CEO, Pascal Rudin, adds, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our volunteers, each and every one of you, who contribute your time, skills, and passion to advance the mission of IFSW. From our dedicated archivist who preserves our history, to the creative minds behind the World Social Work Day poster designs, and the tireless efforts of members in our working groups, commissions, as well as our esteemed regional secretaries and the global ambassador, your collective commitment is the driving force behind our federation’s success.

On this International Volunteer Day, let us celebrate the dedication of volunteers everywhere who, through their collective action, contribute to positive social change. Their efforts remind us that by working together, we can overcome even the most daunting challenges and build a more just and sustainable world for future generations. Thank you for your invaluable contributions and for being an integral part of the IFSW family!
