IFSW UN Commission in New York prepares for the Commission on Social Development (CSocD)

Information Type: StatementTopic: UN

December 15, 2022

The 61st United Nations Commission for Social Development (CSocD61) will take place from 6 to 15 February 2023 in conference room 4 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The CSocD is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), annually dedicated to key social development themes as part of its follow up to the outcome of the Copenhagen Summit in 1995. Since 2006, the Commission has taken up key social development themes as part of its follow up to the outcome of the Copenhagen Summit.

The 61st session’s priority theme focuses on creating full and productive employment and decent work for all as a way of overcoming inequalities to accelerate the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development The UN team in New York has submitted a statement which was just accepted to be included in the official documentation for the upcoming session. The statement outlined the IFSW commitment to the CSocD theme of full and productive work accelerating recovery, overcoming inequality and achieving the 2030 Agenda.

The IFSW statement affirms that these goals are aligned with our philosophy of co-building an eco-social world. Co-building transformative social protections, standing with workers to ensure collective worker rights, protections and decent pay in the context of jobs and industries that do no harm to the environment are strategies central to our holistic human rights framework and our goals of co-building an eco-social world.

Currently, the team is developing a proposal for a side panel event in order to amplify the recommendations from the statement in partnership with like-minded organizations.
