IFSW calls on social workers throughout the world to support the objectives of the United Nations World Day of Social Justice on Monday 20 February and to ensure that these themes are reflected in the celebration of World Social Work Day on Tuesday 21 March 2017.
The United Nations promotes the World Day of Social Justice with the following statement:
‘Observance of World Day of Social Justice should support efforts of the international community in poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and decent work, gender equity and access to social well-being and justice for all.’
IFSW President, Ruth Stark said: ‘This vision is entirely consistent with the values and principles of the International Federation of Social Workers and with the objectives of The Global Agenda for Social Work. The role of social workers in social protection systems is working with people through transformational change. This requires social workers, civil society and the international community to work with the United Nations to achieve the vision of peaceful, inclusive sustainable communities’ .
World Social Work Day on 21 March 2017 has the theme ‘Promoting Community and Environmental Sustainability’. Further information – including the global poster in many languages -is available from the IFSW website http://www.ifsw.org/world-social-work-day-2017
