The IFSW Asia-Pacific Region has successfully completed its 2025 Regional Development Fund (RDF) project Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity in the Present and for the Future in the Asia-Pacific Region , as a valuable resource for social workers committed to advancing intergenerational solidarity and sustainable wellbeing throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The initiative brought together social workers, academics, and community leaders from across the region through two key activities. In September 2025, IFSW Asia-Pacific hosted an online regional webinar exploring intergenerational solidarity among currently living generations, with contributions from speakers in Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. In November 2025, a pre-conference workshop held in Sri Lanka ahead of APSWC2025 focused on intergenerational solidarity for future generations, particularly in relation to climate change, environmental sustainability, and community resilience.
The project highlighted the importance of dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative learning across the region. Discussions underscored the continuing role of family and community care, the need to address policy and workplace gaps affecting carers, and the value of intergenerational exchange in developing innovative responses to social and environmental challenges.
