Bringing an Intersectional Social Work Perspective to Gender Equality 💜Gender equality cannot be advanced in isolation from the other inequalities and experiences that shape people’s lives. Bringing this intersectional perspective into international advocacy, and connecting global commitments with action at regional, national and local levels was at the heart of discussions between IFSW and International Gender Champions (IGC) in Geneva on 16 September 2026.IFSW Global President Eva Ponce de Leon and Interim Secretary-General Pascal Rudin, IFSW’s designated Gender Champion, met with Hannah Reinl, Project Manager at the International Gender Champions Secretariat, following IFSW’s recent joining of the network.♀️IFSW’s participation in International Gender Champions is accompanied by concrete institutional commitments.🤝 By the end of 2027, the Federation will integrate an intersectional gender review into all new global policies, position statements and advocacy papers, making this a standard element of its policy development process.🤝 IFSW will also apply the International Gender Champions Gender-Responsive Assemblies Toolkit to its 2028 General Meeting, identifying practical ways to strengthen gender responsiveness and inclusion within the Federation’s principal global decision-making forum.🤝In addition, IFSW has endorsed the International Gender Champions’ Panel Parity Pledge and Gender-Based Violence Pledge, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive participation, safe environments and addressing gender-based violence and sexism.
🤝 Connecting Social Rights, Policy and Social Work: IFSW Visit to the Swiss Parliament 🏛🇨🇭During the autumn session of the Swiss Parliament, IFSW Global President Eva Ponce de Leon and Interim Secretary-General Pascal Rudin visited the Federal Palace in Bern on 14 September 2026, where they met with Swiss National Councillor Sibel Arslan.The exchange focused on how social work can contribute more strongly to political and policy processes at national, European and global levels. A central topic was the European Social Charter and opportunities for collaboration to advance social rights.The discussion was particularly relevant given Arslan’s engagement with the Council of Europe, where she serves as Vice-Chair of the Parliamentary Assembly’s Sub-Committee on the European Social Charter. Her work also encompasses wider human rights and social policy issues, providing a valuable basis for exploring connections between European rights frameworks, national policy and the social work profession.💖Alongside the parliamentary exchange, Eva Ponce de Leon and Pascal Rudin also met with Michel Rudin, a Swiss public affairs professional and entrepreneur with experience across politics, business and civil society, to explore opportunities for engagement with the private and philanthropic sectors, including through corporate social responsibility and potential funding partnerships. The discussion considered how such partnerships could support social work priorities while remaining grounded in the profession’s values and ethical principles. 💜🌱🌐
