The UN Commission of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) has submitted a statement to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in response to its call for input on environmental human rights defenders and the human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. Shaping AI for a Socially Just Future: The Critical Role of Social Work🌐✨️The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) contributed to the 2026 AI for Developing Countries Forum Geneva Summit, held at the United Nations Office at Geneva from 12–14 August. The Forum brought together governments, international organisations, technology experts, researchers and civil society to consider a question that is rapidly becoming central to social and economic development: who will shape artificial intelligence (AI), and who will benefit from it?For social work, this is not primarily a technological question.
