INDIA SUPPORTS TO HAVE THREE PROXY!!

The proposed amendment by Newzealand and seconded by UK to allow THREE proxy instead of ONE as proposed in original motion , is justified and has a rationale too. AS IFSW grows and more and more countries join IFSW , it becomes important that we have the rights of those associations who cannot travel to IFSW meetings protected and hence they should have option to be represented by Proxy. Though we are in virtual mode and may be hybrid for some time, we would definitely get back to physical mode sooner ! Hybrid mode will have its own challenges and may be good for for conferences and events to get reach out to large numbers ,it is always advisible to have General Meetings physically as it allows space for sharing perceptions and having consultation from representatives before proposing changes to drafts ,deliberating and accepting.
Hence India strongly supports the amendment by New Zealand proposed to have THREE proxies and seeks support from all.

Forward looking report ! Despite pandemic affecting normal life and movement globally and posing severe challenges, IFSW under the stewardship of Silvana along with Rory demonstrated their best leadership in working with various National associations, various commissions, collaborators ,building partners, and working with UN and other international bodies to show case that social workers can make a difference during the challenging times. A quick adoption to virtual mode by integrating technology into our functioning and going virtual mode helped us to connect more often and reach out to more social workers around .
Silvana ,As you hand over the leadership mantle to Elect President, you will be always remembered for your dynamic and positive leadership. of course Rory will continue to be an inspiration !!

you have raised a very important issue that is affecting many developing countries. Debt servicing by itself is eating into GDP . many a times the governments cut on social welfare and support for poor and vulnerable sections. They project and show more and more people above poverty line to justify cuts, where as in reality the line to determine Below Poverty by itself is often not too scientific . the points raised by you needs further debate for suitably articulating in GA themes.

it is very thoughtful and welcome move that Herbert Paulischin has made the proposal for Education Commission. blending practice and academics for building social work competencies is important in present days. this proposal should be accepted and broad guidelines should be framed . India( INPSWA) will be willing to work with Herbert and others to give a shape to the commission and define its objectives, focus areas and priorities. we have many senior social work educators who also have expertise in practice and can add value to the commission.

thanks for the clarification David Jones. however would there be sufficient time line ( window ) for all members to vote and will there be some sort of a pop up or reminder to those who may not have responded as timezones are different and chances of missing timelines may be there and if it happens it could deny voting members an opportunity.

    greetings from India !!
both of you along with Executive had made such a meticulous planning for the conference at Canada, but the pandemic threw everything out of gears. once it started and visualizing the likely magnitude and spread , you both took stock and an immediate decision to call it off instead of keeping it postponed. Then came much more challenging task of deciding and organising the virtual meeting and virtual conference. yes…adaptability to sitauations are important for social workers but at the same time keeping same spirit ! great leadership by both of you ! now time is no constraint for making observations and comments!! hope we will hear more voices, more suggestions !! looking forward for three days deliberations, recorded speeches and reports.

🪻Today, we remember Laura Iglesias, a social worke 🪻Today, we remember Laura Iglesias, a social worker whose life was tragically taken while carrying out her professional duties. On the anniversary of her death, we honour her memory and reaffirm a commitment shared by social workers across Latin America and the Caribbean: that no professional should face violence in the course of their work. Laura’s legacy continues to inspire action toward safer working environments, stronger protections for social workers, and greater recognition of the vital role the profession plays in advancing human rights, social justice, and social protection. Remembering Laura is not only an act of memory —it is a call to action. For safe workplaces. For decent working conditions. For the protection of social workers everywhere. #LauraIglesias #SocialWork #IFSW #HumanRights #SocialJustice
🌍⚖️ Historic moment for climate justice. The Unit 🌍⚖️ Historic moment for climate justice. The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly backed the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion affirming that states have legal obligations to address climate change and protect communities from environmental harm. The resolution, led by Vanuatu, reinforces that climate action is not optional — it is a matter of international responsibility and human rights. We welcome this landmark step toward accountability, social justice, and a just transition away from fossil fuels. As social workers, we witness every day how climate change deepens poverty, displacement, inequality, and insecurity. Climate justice and social justice are inseparable. Communities on the frontlines — particularly Indigenous peoples, Pacific nations, and marginalized populations — must be at the center of decision-making and action. This is a call for urgent, transparent, and inclusive climate action grounded in human rights, solidarity, and care for future generations. #ClimateJustice #SocialJustice #IFSW #UnitedNations #EcoSocialWorld

The first volume in the Social Work in Action series, “Social Work Beyond Borders: The Importance of Relationships”, edited by Ruth Stark, is now available in Japanese 🇯🇵 This publication highlights how co-building relationships is central to effective social work practice and to creating sustainable eco-social change across communities worldwide. Through storytelling and reflective practice, social workers from different regions share experiences of solidarity, resilience, and transformation. 🫆🪷✨ Identity Rights Are Essential for Young People 🫆🪷✨ Identity Rights Are Essential for Young People’s Mental Health
➡️ The IFSW, through the Identity Rights Working Group (IDRWG), has submitted expert input to the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on how young people’s mental health and human rights are linked. 📌 Key message:
Young people’s legal identity—including birth registration, nationality and knowledge of family origins—is fundamental to their sense of belonging, dignity and psychological well-being. Without it, they face barriers to education, health services, social participation and are more vulnerable to exclusion, exploitation and distress. 👥 The submission calls on States to:
• Strengthen birth registration systems and prevent statelessness
• Ensure young people can access and preserve their legal identity
• Support family and community ties as part of mental-health-promoting systems
• Boost social protection and child-protection mechanisms that uphold identity as a human right 🌍
